Revising Images and Resumes

This assignment was done for module #9 for the discussion Copyediting Basics

We were tasked with revising an illustration that showed instructions for how to fasten a preprinted sign to a car door. We were to look for correctness in spelling and consistency of placement of different types of information. Additionally, we were tasked with copyediting a resume also for spelling, punctuation, and consistency.

I have listed below the changes made to both the illustration and the resume. Additionally, I have attached images of the physical markups I did for both deliverables and also a PDF file showing the finalized versions with all changes incorporated.

Illustration:

Image 1:

  1. Moved the “Site for application” label inside of the image, fixed the typo (sight > site), and center aligned and italicized it for emphasis.

  2. Added “Side A” to the bottom of the LETTERS image to create consistency throughout all images. I also italicized for emphasis and to parallel the notes on the right side.

  3. Created notes for the first two entries of information, as I thought it flowed a little better.

  4. Removed the callout for “Side B”, as I was not sure what Side B was, and it was not ever listed in the illustration itself.

  5. Created instructional steps out of the second two entries of information, clarified the type of line to be drawn (“grease”), and made an action statement regarding the straight edge.

  6. Made the arrows straight across instead of bent for better flow.

Image 2:

  1. Created an action statement instructional step for consistency purposes.

  2. Lessened the amount of arrows used in the illustration.

  3. Italicized “Side A” to parallel the instructional step.

  4. Added length to the grease line to match the first image, and also included the straight edge line for consistency purposes.

  5. I removed the callout for the grease line because it was redundant.

Image 3:

  1. Created an action statement instructional step for consistency purposes.

  2. Edited the arrows to flow smoother with the image.

  3. Italicized “Side A” to parallel the instructional step and moved it inside the LETTERS image.

  4. Added the grease line and straight edge to match the previous two images.

Resume:

  1. Added section headings in bold to the top part of the resume, split this information up based on contact info vs. personal detail info, ensured everything was justified to the margins, and corrected spelling/abbreviation.

  2. Created an action statement out of the objective and fixed the syntax and abbreviation.

  3. Revised the education section to list the bachelor’s degree first, so the section is now chronological.

  4. Revised alignment and typefaces in the education section for more emphasis and ensured everything was justified to the margins. The author should add a GPA for the Bachelor degree for consistency purposes.

  5. Fixed the typo in the professional appointments heading, revised the alignment and typefaces in this section to parallel with the education section, and fixed syntax/abbreviation.
